'■Tokio, May' 24 Baron Katd, a former Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs, inter* viewed at Tokio, declared that if Rußsia asked for peace Japan would insist on au unconditional armistice; require Russia to return Manchuria to China; recognise Japanese suzerainty over Korea; cede Saghalien to Japan ; destroy 'permanently the fortifications at Vladivostok; pay an indemnity of at least two thou sand million yen on such liberal terms as wonid afford no occasion for the Powers' intervention.
Count Katsura, the Japanese Premier, addressing the British Alliance, said the end of the struggle was far off, but tho people were prepared to light to the last drop of blood.
