The British navy was undivided in strength, and wao as much at the disposal of South Africa as the Motherland, which was grateful for the contribution made by the Cape and Natal to the navy, especially as it was unconditional. What tho United Empire was to tho soa ho hoped the Ope and Natal would be as guides to, tho inland colonies. Thoy should make them understand that tho command of tho sea alone would enable South Africa, without foreign interferenoo, to work out its own salvation.
