The Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union is proceeding, Mr. Phillips, the retiring president, stated that tho year had been satisfactory to farmers. The rust attacks bud been mild, and prteos for sheaf stuffs ware satisfactory. Tho potato blight was a serious visitation. The expansion of tho butter expott had increased, and tho prices of wool and butter wtro a matter for great congratulation Hs urged the claim of t*ie North Auckland railway for a grant of £50,000, end dwelt on the impertanoe of the lsnd tenure question and tho right of purohsse. He contended that the land should bo taxed on the production value instead of the soiling value, Agricultural education should ho pushed forward, Although it was unwise for eoloninl or piovincial unions to stlect Parliamentary candidates, the branch unions could profitably do so,
