School Committee Meeting

The monthly meeting of tho Waihi Dis. triot High School Committco took place last night in the sohoul-room. Thoro were present Messrs, McCarthny (chairman;. Henner.<on (semtary), Ca'hoy, Gpodridge, Nvwrtick, Newih, Carter ami Niebolron. The minutes of the previous ihtoiiug were road and confined. BKSJGNATION Correspondence was rooeived {rom the Board 1 of Education stating that Miss McNatnara bad resigned her position as assistant teacher. bOaOOL BEQtnSITBS The headmaster applied for various requisites and stationery. A diecpssion took plaoo on the matter of procuring Btationerylooallyor from AucKhvnd, and the local and Auckland prices woro com p<ired. Mr Carter stated that some time ago he had compiled a list of requirements and found that the local stationers could supply them as choaply as elsewhere. Ho | did not rankthat a barometor and thermometer should bo purchased bv the committee.' . It was proposod by Mr 'Carter, and seconded by Mr Niehoispn, that all school stationery, be purchnsed locally. The motion was onrried, It was .proposed by MrNewth, seconded by Mr Carter, that Mr Livesey provide stuionery, ote, for tho first four months. —Carried. On the motion of Mr Henderson, seconded by Mr Catbey, it was decided that the procuring of material for brushwork, . drawing and kindertjarton work, and also the ordering of stationery, be left in ■the hands of Mr Benge.—Carried. It. was resolved that necessary coal anil firewood be procured for the school, and that the.headuiaator be requested to ha»'e the fives in the sohoolroom lighted tome time befdre the school commenced, NIGHT OP SIKETING The Chairman arked for tbo night of meeting to be altered from the first to the stcpnd Friday of the month. It was proposed by Mr Carter, and seconded by Mr Nicholson, that the resolution appointing the first Friday of the month as the night of meiting bn rescinded, This was carried unanimously. It wa? moved by Mr Cathey, Beconued by Mr Henderson, that the meetings bo held on the second Friday of the month-Carried. Proposed by Mr Cathey, seconded by Mr Nichoison, that a hand-lamp bo provided for the uso of the committee.—Carried, ACCOUNTS, Acepunla amounting to £5 7i 6d for cleaning the school, and fixing signal lineß on the flag-pole, were passed for payment, MRETING3. It was proponed by Mr Carter, and seconded by Mr Nowtb, that future oominittee mee'ings be opr n to householders. Considerable df«ousston on the matter took placo between Messrs. Cirior, Nicholson, and the ohairman, Mr Nicholson holding that all meetings were open to the public. Tho rosolution was carried. SCHOOt, FOR RAST END It was proposed by tho Ohairman that tho Education Board be asked to reconsider the East School question, and that the Board be reminded that Mr Seddon had said that if the application came through the proper cbannol he would support it. Mr Carter said that some time ago, the Ohairman of tho Auckland Education Board bad said that no more money would be spent on the present school, bat on a new one. _ Mr, Nioholson explained bow the education grants wore voted at present, and said that thd best way would be to apply to the Education Department direct. Mr Carter said that a short while ago the Education Board had informed tho committee that tho Government grant that year had only amounted to £IBOO, where as thoy should have said that that wbb all they got under table A, for in the same year under table B they had grants amounting to £9,000. The resolution was seconded by Mr. Goodridge and carried. SIGNING CHEQUES, The chairman and secretary were, authomed to sign cheques, and tho meo ii:g terminated.
