In reference to the comphint of Sir Joseph Ward that New Zealand bad; been paying 6s per pound for the transmission of mail manor to London, the Secretary of the Postal Department stales that be is not aware what the charge was under th? old contract with the P. and 0, Company and Orient Company, but during the brief period when no contract Misted New Zeiland was only charged 2s. Under the new contract the rate of poundage would probably bo 3s 7d.
