A wbia attended publio meeting was held last evening in Power's Hotel to consider the question of forming a deputation to wait upon the Premier, when he visits. Waihi shortly, with reference to the proposed new school at Waihi Bast. The convenor of the meeting, Mr, W. I*. Ridings, was voted to the chair. To put the business into form the chairman moved that a deputation wait upon the Premier on the occasion of his forthcoming visit and to lay before him the urgent necessity of a school in Waihi East. This was seconded. A considerable amount of discussion then ensued as to whether the deputation should ask the Premier to grant a school with all standards or just an infant school. It was pointfld out that the Waihi Sohool Committee had been agitating all along for the establishment of an infant sobool, and it seemed a pity that there should appear to be any division of opinion as to what was required. The chairman's original motion having been withdrawn, Mr. T. E Palmer moved that a deputation be appointed from the meeting to act in conjunction with the School Committee in bribing the matter' before the Premier. Mr. Henderson seconded, and in doing so said that although the Soh'ol Committee had been-endeavouring all (Jong to get an infant school established, they were in no. way pledged or committed to the proposal but had aithplv *pftra"to "get the infant school bofl&iißethey thought they were more Ttkcly to be successful than if they applied for a proper school. The motion was unanimously carried. *Mr Henderson, .vho is Secretary of the School Committee, said he would lay the matter before the Committee on Monday evening next, and if they were not agree-* able to the proposed join deputation, he would give ample notice, so that another meeting of residents conld be called, - J It was decided to appoint \ five of those present to act upon the deputation, the following gentlemen being salected; Messrs Ridings, Palmer, Woods, Hanlon, and Tyson.
