Thore is still a substantial balanoe in hand, OLD HAURAKI, A report has boon current to the effect that a new 4ft reef has been discovered on the Old Hauraki Company's ground, No word, however, lias been rcceivod at tho company's office regarding .the supposed find. ■ THE HUANOI (WAITMAfJRI) A party of geiitlonion, interested in mining in the Waitekauri and other districts, visited tho Huanui mine on, Saturday last and woro courteously shown over the mine by Messrs Campbell and Gordon, membors of the Huanui Syndicate, It was found that the roof, avoraging from one to four foet in width, had been driven on for a distauce of 400 feet, and a number of most promising leaders intcrseoted in the cross-cuts. These should form a compact body of one when the lower lovels are opened up. Samples of ore, taken from tho reef and various leaders, showed free gold in the stone, and dish prospects, mado later yielded most oncouraging rosuits, The stouo is very similar in appoar> anco to that obtained from the neighbouring Te-Ao-uuratna section of the Komata Reefs mine and is, no doubt, part of the ' same reef series, Two tons of ore, recently sent to tho Thames School of Minos, returned a value of £5 9s 8d per ton, and one ton sent previously yielded tho splendid return of £29 por ton, Tho Syndicate is being formed into a company of 30,000 two shilling shares (6d on allotmont and the balanoo oallod up in monthly calls of not moro than 3d) of which tho greater part have already been subscribed for, and negotiations should shortly be oornploted for tho purchaso of a 10 head battery for which a suitable sito has already booD selected,
