London, December 20 Sia Frank Rwetkniiam, ex-Gnvcrtior of tho S' ails Settlements, in a letter lo iho TiuiOß, says:—'The Crown Colonies for years have annually contributed to the Imperial defence, the Straits Settlements to tho extent of 20 per cent, of its.rovoiiiie, and the contribution would t-iiioiitit- to 4190,000 in 190/5. If the self-governing colonies acted in a similar manner iheir contributions would amount to £12,160,000, Australia's proportion being £5,740,00, and Now Zealands's £1,280,000."
