New Geyser at Rotorua
A Miniature Waimuntja f Tub Government guide who accompanies tourists on the round trip—Rotoruft to Waimangu and Waimangu to Rotorua, -aporicd to Mr. Wahnnt on Thursday morning Hint a new geyser had broken ou', in Mo Rotomahuua, near the site of the destroyed Pink Torraoes- Tho orunlion must have taken pluce on Wednesday night or early on Thursday morn« jug (says the Chronicle), and when seon by tho guido and the tourists he was accompanying, was throwing gravel, mud, and water to a height of 30 feet. The geyser continued active throughout the day, and when last seen by tho quido had in no way lessened in foroo. Tbo water in Mo Rotamahana at tho present time is very high, so much so that tho boat shed placed then by the Tourist Department has not been available, owing to die inroad of tho water. Tho break that is causing Lake Tarawera to empty itself into tho rivor was no doubt caused by the height of tho water in that lake, and it is rather a significant fact that at present the water in Mo Taupo is higher than it has boon known to havo boon for 80 years,
Guide Wnrbrck has telephoned the Tourist Department as follows:—"Tho now geyser is the Otukapurangi cauldron, which has burst into, a lovely goyeor, throwing out stones and mud to about 150 to 200 feet. Tho goysor is continuously working, throwing mud and stones, and is a miniaturo Waimangu. I am of the opinion that it will become a big geyser in a few days. The visitors are delighted with it." h
