WAIHI GRAND JUNCTION

IMPOETANT DEVELOPMENT.

NEW LODE CUT INTO

GREATLY IMPROVED PIiOSPEOTS.

Chis morning oar reporter paid a visit to lie Waihi Grand Junction nine. Sines iur last visit an important development ha 8 taken placo in No. 8 level by the interaction of n second lodo 40 feet beyond the ootwall of the first reef, which proved to )e 28 feet wide. The hanging wall of this iecond reet was struck yesterday, and m he comparatively short interval tbftt has ilapsed the operations on it, hwo disclosed i splondid faco of quartz, with a good deal )f mineral showing, The tiend of this reof is, as far as can be judged ; from the nanging wall as a guide, is 15 degrees east of north; and, accepting this as a correot calculation, tho reet should bo found fiomewlure in the vicinity belo.v thc'Waibi Extended's main shtsi ;f , ~n, | The trend of-tlm firat, or No.' 1 reef, at this level is northeast. This '• will b) a more aopuratffAlfiiilatinn, for tho reason i ,it ; haß.b.Ms f uiiido by the'aid of' the iecond lode has been made from the hangingwall, Based on this calculation No. 1 reef will be picked up some diotanco to the east of tho Extended's shaft. The intersection of the 3eeond lodo yesterday will. elear up nil doubt on the question as to * t there being ono or two Ides. It has proved beyond doubt the existence of two listinct lodes, and that both extend into the adjoining property. Croascutting through the reef just

struck will be expedited by the fact' that rock (?rillj, driven by cumpressod air, aro being user,, After cutting through into tho footwall of tho reef, it 16 proposod to put up a rise to meet the winze, which is! beinj,' nunit from No. 2 level for the pur-' poso of providing an air shaft. Thi'a winzo has _ already been sunk 100 feet, lenving only 40 feet to effect a connootion. The reef is at the present moment in the winze, and is boinp followed down. As soon as the two levels are connpoted (and tenders are now being called to put a riso up to meet tho winzo in order to effect the connection) it Is proposed to drift on both reefj both ways nt No. 3 level. The rim will, of corn's?, not bo commencod till tho footwall of tho new lode has been reached.

WAIHI EXTENDED Tms morning at an early hour the chairman (Mr J, J. Craig) and two other directors, Messrs Bailey and MoLcan, of the Waihi Extended G.M, Co,, paid a flying visit to Wftilii. The visitors proceeded to the mine, »nd after making a thorough examination of the reel in tho winze and lovel tlioy visited tho Waihi Grand Junction mine, wiero they examined tho reefs iD both Nos. 2 and 3 lovels. The chairman of dirrotors expressed complete satisfaction at tho progress in tho Extended mine, and also at the appearance of the reef in ihe face of the level. He was also agreeably impressed with the lode in No. 8 level of the Grand Junction mine. Tho sinking of the winze was slopped altar attaining a depth of 45ft, and driving in the lode was resumed, and has sime been advanced a distance of 60ft, or a total distance of 80ft from the Grontl Junction boundary, Tho whole course o ftlic reef has maintained a uniform appotiriim'c, und the fnco at the present moment is composed of good minernliied snlphido ore. Preparations for resuming tho sinking of tho main shaft will be completed when the second Tangye pump Ins been .installed, the plaoing of which at the bottom of the shaft will be accomplished in tho next day or two, Tho manager, Mr. Johns, has definito instructions to rcsumo sinking at tho earliest possible moment, and tho work will, the manager says, be commenced within the next few dayo, Tho delay in undertaking this most important work was occasioned as tho result of tho seoond Tangye pump not coming to hand sooner. Tho Tangye pumps aro necessary in order to cope with tho surface water that will mako in tho course of sinking.
