The Maori water carnival which the Labour Day Commilteo havo arranged to tike place at MotiUnpu on Labour Day promises to bo a rniijuo entertainment so far as Auckland is concerned, Tlio Maori portion of tho day's ontortainment includes three canoe hurdles, a canoe tug-of-war, a oanoo Hat raco between crows composed of wahines and tangata, and a historic race known to the Maoris as a "chase for a brido." Tho brido in this particular instanco Is the most skilful canoeist on tlio Waikato, and tho Maoris think that tho champion who catches her will havo his work cut out. Besides the water oventn tho committee havo arranged for poi dances by the girls of tho Wttfthi Club, and a splendid poi and haka by a number of children, whoso ages rango from ihrco upwards, The preliminary performances, which havo boon held at Huntly and at the native settlement of Waabi, prove that tho ontortaintnonts of- the Maoris will bo of a most picturesquo cbaractor, Tho poi dancers and the men who take part in the haka and war dances will be dressed
