O.UI.VHU, September 28 Mtt John McGowan, Commissioner of Tuxes, died suddenly at Station Peak (Kurow) yesterday, With Mr, Barron, ho was inspeciing a property dii behalf of tho Land Puiclinsc Department. Both gontlcmon wore out on tho hills in tho morning and on rotnrning to tho homestead Mr. McGowan took a drink of water. Shortly afterwards ho was seized 'w ; th violent pains in the slomiijli, ami all hough everything possible was done (or bun ho suddenly collapsed. If mi inquest is deemed necessary it will be hold ui Onuiaru. Latkh Mr McGowan complained of pains in I ho chest in tho mowing, and did not go out with tho party during the. day. On their return nt half pact one they found lhat ho had becomo worso, and was vomiting, lie expired almost immediately Tho doc'ors were called in after. His death was attributed to heart disease. The body was brotiglit lo daimru this morning, and forwarded to Wellington to day. Wruinuton, this day. Sir Joseph Ward announced to the House yesterday the death in the Oinaru district of Mr, John McGowan, Commissioner of Tuxes and Valuer-General.
