WilHI HORTICULTURAL INDUS TRIAL AND POULTRY SOCIETY

TO TIIK EDITOR Bib,-May I, ihiout;h the medium of your Widely read paper, call the attention of members, intending members, and all those mtoivstol iu the welfaro of the abovo sociotv, to tho meeting as advertised to bo held by kind permission of Mr Bong:) ut his rosidonco on Tuesday evening next, Tho date fixed for the show, December 6th, is now getting comparatively close, and as tho general committee intend doing their boat to make Horticultural Show Day the red'lettor day of th? year in Waihi, there is necessarily, particularly as this is our first show, a greiv, amount of work to be dona, and it is tliereforo noodful to liavo strong subcommittees, both of ladies aud gontle ( Qen, to'work out the many details of the show. I am thankful to say that so far wo havo received genorous support from tho public (barring the Borough Counci, though I havo no doubt tha latter will as individual? {jive us tlioir best help) both in becoming members of the society mid also in advertising in the schedules. Sineo tho sehedulo was printed I havo received some more donations and spocial prizes, viz, two guineas from tho directors of the Waihi Goldmining Com» pany, one guinea from Messrs. P. Hayman and Company (through Mr. Livesey) to be given as prizes iu the children's iudustrial class and a prize of 5s for best pot plant exhibited by children under 16 years of age, presented by Mr. Foster. I should also liko to malic ft stiong special appeal to parents to encourago tbeir children to compete in sonio at least of tho various items in the Children's Industrial Class. The committee wish to malto this class a vory special feature of tho Society, and as rooeti of the competitions aro subdivided for children under 12, and over 12 to 16, tho youngest will get a good chaneo of gaining a prize, Handsome certificates will bo presented, as also in many cases a good and valuable prize such as Girl's (and Boy's) Own Annual, woikboxes, etc. In this class alone there are about 40 items, I am quito sure that a healthy competition in tho adult class iu (lowers, vegetables, homework, etc., as also in poultry, pigeons, etc,, will not only make December 6th, Horticultural Show Day, a day to bo remembered in tho annals of Waihi, but will also do much good permanently to tho town itself and Its inhabitants, Floroat Waihi l-I am, etc., Hkubert Hutcmkgs, Hon, Sec.
