MINING IN SUMATRA. All manual labour is dono by Malays and Chinese coolies, The carpenters, fitters, blacksmiths, and maßonsaro Chinese, There are about 4000 natives employod by tho company, the averago wage being 40 cents Hollands, equal to 8d English, per day, plus three feeds of rice and dry fish. The company provide every man a house of two rooms, verandah back aud front, also bathroom, kitcheu, electrio 1 ght etc., medical attendance free. The mino is supplied with power from a 2000 volt throe phaso alternating current system, tho generating station being Bituatod threo kilometres from the mine, and driven by water power, Tho rock drills, hoinle, pumps, stamp mills, and in fact all tho plant, is electrically operated,
