Tho Chairman of the Board (Mr, Luke) said that this action had beon taken undet tho subsection of sootion 47 of tho Education Act, 1887, which stated that nothing in tho Act should prccludo tho comraitteefrom suspending a teacher, or a Hoard from peremptorily dismissing him, under cer< tain circumstance*, The Board decided to disousss tho mattor in open meeting, as tho ojso had been beforo the public,
Mr (jroonslado then moved; " That in the absenoe of any indication from tho Mount Roslrill School Oomraittee in voply to tho Board's lotter of July Bth, 1904, as to whether tho allegations are other than thoso alroady inquired into and dismissed by the Teachers' Appeal Court, tho Board doolinos to roopen tho question,' 1 Mr Greonalado said that the teacher had not boon given fair play, and had boon outod. Tho whole matter had beon finished, and should not bo rooponjil, Mr Bagrmll moved as an ainendmont: " That Mr O'Donoghuo be furnished with a copy of the correspondence with tho Mount Roakill Committee during Julytutd August, and bo asltod to give ti teply to tho allegations made against him in tho letter of August 23rd." Mr Bagnnll went on to say:" Wo aro in this position, that onco a teacher r appointed by tho Board iio can't bo dismiftiod, and tho Board has to put up with him no matter what ho does. That was the position at Mount- Rosliill.' If Mr O'Donogliuo was wrongfully accused, it was due to him that ho should bo given an opportunity to clear hitnsolf. If, on tho other hand, ho was guilty, no metnbor ot tho Board would deny that it was not dosirablo that a man so much disliked by tho householders should remain in tho school."
On tho division, tho amendment asking Mr O'Donoghno to reply to the allegations made was carried, Messrs Bagnall, Hobbs, Edgecombe and Harris voting for it and Mossrs Luke, Greonslido and McKouzio against it, The matter then closed,
