WAIHI EXTENDED MINE assay results
PROMISING PROSPECT FOE THE PROPERTY On Thursday last Messrs,| Edward Barker and W, Bailoy, directors of the Waihi Extended Gold Mining Company, paid a visit to tho mine, and secured parcels of ore from the vicinity of tho footwall and hanging wall portions of tho roof. On the footwall for a width of about five feet tho reef had been driven on for about thrco feet in the direction of the centre of the Extonded proporty. At this point samples of oro were brokon out in different parts of the face, and taken away in small canvas bags by the directors, A sample was also taken from tho hanging wall of tho reef in tho face of the drive, which is boing driven into tho Grand Junction property, In connection with the result of tbeso assays our Auck- \ land corespondent wires as follows "Tho rosults of assays of throo samplos'of oro ftom tho footwall of tho reef in the Waihi Extended uiino, brought to town by tho directors, wore as follows:—No. 1 sample, £3 3s Od; No, 2 sample, a trace of gold and silver; No. 3 sample, £3 9a lOd, Tho result of an assay of stone from the banging wall was 12 2s 2d. Tho abovo results will bo accepted by tho sharoholdors as highly satisfactory, These values unmistakably bear out the general opinion that the Extended
! reef is an extension of the reef in the No. 2 level of thq Waihi Grand Junction mine, Tho avorago valuo of tho reef along the course of the Grand Junction lodo at the samo lovel, is £4 13s 4d, whilo in tho winzes sunk from thjs level, tho averago value was ios4s9d. Another important factor in tho future ol tho Extended Mine, is tho knowlodgo that tho groati roof systom of tho ; Waihi mino oxtonds to tho Grand Junction i property, as proved by tho result ofborring operations undertaken by that Coin- i pany some months ago, At 'that time a i reof was penetrated for a depth of about | 150 feet, which, allowing for the anMe | oftho bore, proved tho reef to be at°nn ( estimated width of 119 feet, Thero is no , reason in tho world why this colossal reef ( should not exist in tho Extonded property, t Steady progress is being made in driv* \ ,ing on the hanging wall of tho reef into > tho Gmnd Junction to effect a connection with the No, 2 level of tho Junction for ventilation purposes, Both companies are driving to meet each other, and tho l connection might bo tuado at any timo '1 within the next weA, When this is an < accomplished fact, both mines will bu E effectually vontilatpi), and tho Extonded a Company will ba in a position to sink a 'J winzo on the reof straightaway, i
