SMUGGLING BRANDY
A DUNEDIN CASE. (Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Not. 23. At the Police Court Leonard George Eobertson, William Thomas Cordrill, and Ernest Gladstone McGunn were charged with smuggling a case of Martell's brandy. The Collector of Customs stated he did not intend to proceed against,Cordrill and McGunn, as he understood ‘ they knew nothing about the matter. - Robertson pleaded guilty to having uncustomed goods in his possession, which plea was accepted, the major count being withdrawn.
The Collector said that pillaging of cargo had reached such a stage that the Department took a very serious view of the case!
The Magistrate, in inflicting a fine of £SO, told Eobertson he was fortunate in not' being charged with receiving stolen property.
