EXAMINATIONS

(Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 23. Public Service Entrance, National Scholarship, and Intermediate (or free place) examinations commenced this morning. Entries for the Public Service Entrance and _ Senior National Scholarship Examinations total 1822. The number of entrants who express a desire''to obtain Public Service appointments is 1076, as against 1100 last year. ' The intermediate entries number 2360, and Junior National entries 2468. Entries for thA Matriculation examinations this year constitute a record. They number 3020, as against 2653 in 1919, and 2126 in 1918. For Junior University Scholarship 140 entries have been received, as against 143 last year. ■ For the teachers’ examinations, which commence on January 6, 1921, there have been received 2745 entries, either for the whole or for part of the examinations. Candidates for Class D Certificate number 2047, and those for Class 0 Certificate 698. Of the total number of entrants, 665 are men, and 2080 are women. The total, number of entries last year for these examinations was 2633.
