SCHOOL CHILDREN'S TEETH

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT’S SCHEME CONDEMNED.

OPPOSITION FROM WANGANUI.

Members of the local branch of the New Zealand Dental Association state that it is not right for the Hon. Parr to say that all the opposition to his dental nurse scheme comes from Professor Pickerill, and characterise such a statement as unworthy as it is unjust. A “Herald” representative was informed that almost every member of the local branch is against it, and that practically all the Wellington, Hawke’s Bay. ana Christchufch members of the Association are against it too. in fact, when individual members of the Association voted on it at their branch meetings it was turned down by twelve branches to two. At the Executive meeting held later in Wellington sixteen members voted for it, five against. Five of the sixteen votes came from Auckland. Our representative was also informed that the local representative on the executive took down a counter scheme, but it was not even discussed. Hawke’s Bay took down several motions, but the chairman ruled them but as being direct negatives. Mr Hunter expounded his scheme, but brought forward no new facte of merit. In spite of this, some members voted N 'for his scheme against the wishes of their branches.
