RAILWAY COMMISSION
TAUPO--TOTARA COMPANY'S LINE.
(Per United Press Association.) , Roy. 20. ' The Taupo-Tota-ra Land and Timber Commission was continued to-day. Mr McViily, General Manager of the New Zealand Railways, said that he did not think the line could be satisfactorily taken over by the Government;- it could be worked as at present;, but not satisfactorily from a tourist point of view. So thought the low speed at which it was possible to travel -would cause tourists to complain and to consider the means of transit very unsatisfactory. Be understood that 15 miles per hour was the limit of speed. Whereever there had been light lines the weight of public opinion had always compelled the Government to improve and bring them up to the standard. Replying to the Chairman, Mr McYilly said that he would first recdmmend the Government to spend ,£543,000, the estimated cost of converting the line.
