SCOTTISH FAIR.
A record crowd attended last night, and record business was done by stallholders and the, numerous side shows, etc. Tjio visit of the Premier to tho Fair created interest, and the right hon. gentleman received a flattering reception from the large audience on making has appearance in the gallery, where ho witnessed a portion of the programme, specially delayed to suit his convenience. The Premier was successful in winning a doll, which he kindly handed back to be re-raffled. His appearance on the platform and departure from same was to the music of ‘Pipe-Major Thomson. The programme was again of a highclass nature. Miss Elspeth Forbes (daughter of the Pipe Band’s worthy patron, Mr N. Mackenzie Forbes) again took the place of Mr Alec. Sutherland, who had not quite recovered from the effects of his accident of t&e previous day. Mr Sutherland hopes to be fit to give his popular items this evening. The new item on the programme was a song by Mr Reid, Jr., son of our worthy Sergeant of Police, who showed himself to be the possessor of a remarkably fine voice, and his item was received with hearty applause. The concerted dancing items were again a feature of the evening, and the orchestral items and pipe selections were as popular as ever. The position of the Clan candidates remains unaltered so far, and the position of the respective candidates at the end of the Fair, when the results will be made up on the “nett” proceeds, is awaited with the greatest anxiety hy the numerous workers and supporters. / To-night’s programme is composed of the best of the concerted dancing items, seaun truibhas by Miss' Elspeth Forbes, “Sailor’s Hornpipe” by the organiser, orchestral items, pipe selections, etc., and the new artiste is Miss Ruscoe, the candidate for the Campbell Uau, who will render songs. . Attention is again drawn to the big children’s afternoon on Saturday. All children will be admitted free, and the full dancing programme will be submitted. . One of the baud workers of the Fair unfortunately lost £l2 last night, and its recovery will be rewarded. The following are the results of the competitions;—Lady’s trosseau, W. Barns; tray cloth, Mrs C. Hood; teaspoons, B. A. Read; hat. R. Kiely; teapot, May Cameron; box tea. Bill Ha,rt," doll. Right Hon. W. P. Massey; cushion. Iris Halligan; Scotch doll, Stewart McKinley; vase, R. Linch; tray cloth, Rev Father O’Connell'; box of cigars. D, McFariane; silk sports coat, Lena Allen; box cigards, C. B. Hill; cake, P. Watson.
The art union prizes are now on view in Messrs McNiven’s window.
GARRISON BAND. MUNICIPAL CONCERT. On Sunday evening the Garrison Band will give an open-air concert in the Rotunda, commencing at 8.15. These concerts, held in the evening, have in the past attracted very large audiences, and next Sunday evening’s performance should be equally successful.
