CURTAILING STAFFS.

Owing to the hoot trade slackening, many factories are curtailing staffs and working short time. An official-of the Boot Trades Union stated that 300 members were idle. The Labour Council instructed its executive to watch" any fall in/prices arid prepare a plan in readiness to com-, bat any attempt to reduce wages.
