PROHIBITION STRUGGLE
POLLING IN GLASGOW. TEMPERANCE ADVOCATES HOPEFUL. Received November 3, 10 'a.m. LONDON, November 2. Great interest is being taken in the Glasgow local option polling to-day. Vigorous propaganda was . carried on right up to tire ove of the voting. The pxiblic houses are closed in the thirtyseven wards taking the poll. Temperance advocates expect success iip nine. The results will bo announced to-morrow. A great struggle for prohibition has been going on in Scotland for some timp. The* 1912 Temperance Act, the operation of which was postponed until 1920, is similar to the New Zealand submits the issues of continuance, reduction, or' prohibition to the electors, a hire' majority carrying ibe latter. The country is swarming with American “pussyfooters” - and temperance “diehards/’ while whisky and beer propagandists' have been stumping the country, scattering countless leaflets from aeroplanes, and spending much money. The drys are strongly organised and have been making a special effort to capture Glasgow and other big towns.
