A solution of the, problem was at hand and only required the united action of , the' Borough and the Wanganui County Councils to. effect permanent relief to all concerned. Correspondence was read from the officials of the Trbttiug Club, whose fine property has been affected by, the, floods, and' 'the assurance was given that the Club would do all in its power to» prevent a recurence of the incident of the past week. Valuable information was given the meeting by Councillors Luxford and Thompson, Mr John/Jones, and several other speakers. After a great deal - of discussion it was; resolved 1 ‘That the Borough Council approached ,by letter and deputation, and urged that they give immediate attention to. the. causes nf the flooding at Wanganui East; also that the Council be requested to endeavour to. arrange a conference with the Wanganui County Council, with a view to diverting some of the water running into the , Matarawa Stream into the Mataongaonga Stream.” It is pleasing to-note that the residents axe beginning to take a keen interest in the welfare of their district.
