U.S. PRESIDENCY
SLANDER AND VITUPERATION. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Nov. 1, 10.10 a.m- ---¥ NEW YORK, Oct. 31. As if to fulfil the dictum that no political campaign would be complete without considerable slander vituperation the newspapers have finally come out , with accounts of a so-called “whispered campaign,” which has been conducted for some time concerning Mr Harding’s ancestry. Certain irresponsible persons have been furthering stories concerning the candidate’s blgc/d, with the hope of strring : up racial feeling. The Republicans admit that no responsible Democrats have any connection with „this campaign. One Republican periodical, on the other hand, has published a sacrilegious cartoon which' shocked the sensibilities of a number of Americans, no matter what their political faith.' Both Mr ■ Harding, and his campaign . managers have disclaimed having furthered the dissemination of the cartoon. These two incidents are typical of old-time campaigns.
