AMUSEMENTS.

PARAMOUNT-MUNICIPAL PICTURES. ( “THE LOTTERY MAN.” Paramount-Municipal Pictures will be resumed a.t the Opera House to-night, and a packed house is assured. There - will bo a side-splitting comedy, AI. St. * John in “Ship, Ahoy!” and Wallace 1 Reid will appear in “The Lottery Man.” ! This is a great picture, and the fact that * Wallace Reid takes role is a sufficient guarantee. Jack Wright and h’oxhal! Poytou were chums at College. ! After his undergraduate days are over, Poytou becomes owner and publisher of * the Daily News, inheriting the paper * from his father. Jack works on the sheet 1 for a time as a special writer, but is ’ fired. On the way to his home he encounters a wedding party just leaving 1 the church. The chance remark of a bystander that “Marriage is a lottery” gives him a hunch. Why not make his fortune by offering himself as a prize in a marriage lottery, offering to marry the woman holding the lucky number and selling the chances at five shillings a piece. And the News could handle ' the contest. He communicates the idea to Poytou. The latter sees in it an ex- . cellent circulation-booster and agrees at once. An nplooked for contingency . arises when Jack, to his own surprise, . falls in love. He endeavours to call the i lottery off. But it is too late. The , papers announcing the contest are already on the press, and the following day the lottery is the talk of the city. Coupons pour into the newspaper office from all sorts, conditions, and colours of women. Then follows a most amusing situation, which will be followed with great interest by the large crowd which is sure to be at the Opera House to-night or Monday night. “THE FAMOUS N.Z.
