Owing to the high cost of fuel and the demand for increased production, many British mill-owners are installing water turbines to use moderate heads of water, and are using steam plant as an auxiliary. Both plants gerenate electricity, the hydro plant taking the constant load, and the steam plant dealing with additional demands in the busiest hours. The arrangements which several of the leading British electrical firms are making to carry out complete hydro-electrical installations of every size will encourage this movement towards power economy.
