A United Press message from Belfast reports that the entire business section of Dundalk has been destroyed by a fire, alleged to have been started by Sinn Reiners as a reprisal for the burning of Catholic property in Belfast and Lisburn by Unionists. A sister of the Lord Mayor of Cork replied to Mr Lloyd George’s letter stating that she did not appeal for exceptional treatment for her brother, adding “I warned you of your responsibility for his death. If my brother or any of his comrades must die to win freedom, the# do so willingly. We are proud of them, but their death lies ou you and the Government. The self-de-termination for which you say England went to war is as much Irelaud’s right as Poland’s. We will have it even if you decide my brother must die.” TEN ARRESTS. FOR SHOOTING HIGHLANDERS. Ten thousand demonstrators gathered outside Brixton Prison to-night. Wild scones were witnessed. Numerous baton charges were made by mounted and foot police, whom the Sinn Fein crowd stoned, injuring several policemen. Many demonstrators were injured during the police, rushes and the stampede of the crowd which followed. SERIOUS RIOTING TROOPS USE MACHINE-GUNS. LONDON, August 26. The Newtonwardis area was in a ferment on Wednesday afternoon, confined principally to stone-throwing between, rival factions. Energetic military \ precautions were taken. Troops with Lewis guns were stationed at strategic points and wire entanglements erected. Serious rioting began after midnight, and the troops were ccmpebed to fire. One rioter was killed, twenty wounded, and thirty arrested. Forty incendiary fires were started in private houses, spirit stores, and grocery stores, and several were destroyed. There was fierce rioting between rival mobs in the Ballymacarrett district of Belfast. Revolvers were used, and there wa- 1 . much looting until the military dispersed the crowd ■with machine-guns. A nimher of rioters were wounded. A CONFERENCE. Received August 28, 10.45 a.m. LONDON, August 27. Sir Haraar Greenwood has gone to Lucerne to confer with, the Premier. This fact has occasioned rumours of divergencies of views between the Cabinet and the Irish Executive.
