The, animal congregation social in connection with the above church was held last Wednesday evening. There was a splendid attendance, the church being quite full, and the proceedings proved to be happy and hearty throughout. 'The Rev. John "Watt, who was associated with the Rev. David Campbell, opened the meeting with prayer, ’Pile chairman expressed his pleasure at seeing such a large gathering, and extended a hearty and cordial welcome to all. The programme opened with a solo, very ably rendered, by Mrs Mason, and this was followed with an. anthem by the choir under the baton of Mr Win. Han ton. Miss McKillop entertained the gathering with one of her best recitations, while Mr Win. Elliott favoured the company with a song. A solo by Miss Franklyn Brown was much appreciated, while Master 'Lizard’s sweet singing proved quite a charm. Miss Simpson stirred the company with her rendering of “Not Understood,” and Mr Tizard, with his fund of Maori story and humour, proved quite a host in himself. Encores wore the rule and not the exception throughout the evening, many of the performers rendering two or more items, the choir closing the programme, with a second anthem. The accompanists for the evening were Misses Fowler, Hewitson, Simpson, and Messrs Mason and Tizard. On the motion of the chairman, a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded to all who had contributed to the harmony of the evening. A bountiful supper was served by the ladies, and the singing of the Doxo'ogy, followed by the Benedibtion, closed another anniversary social, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. “MOTHER HUBBARD” PANTOMIME. Though the legendary cupboard of “Mother Hubbard” was bare, rnd N. Tait and Bailey and Grant , niis.c lovers of pantomime a cupboard .•o;stocked with good things. A pantorue must have plenty of fun for the ildren, as well as humour to spare v the grown-ups who accompany them, so that specialty acts, including Higglers and acrobats, not forgetting. l'i' 1 “dawg” of “Mother Hubbard” fame, should predominate. To this end a strong cast has been secured, which, on paper, is a formidable array of talent, headed by the inimitable Barry Lupino a i “Dame,” and the boisterous Jack Cannot as the husband. That clever animal actor, Mr William A. Hassau, is credited with a performance as “Bully” that cans all his previous efforts, while the Creightons, whirlwind jugglers and acrobats, and that clever duo. Moon and Morris, provide specialty acts that are a marvel of daring and ingenuity. Then there is Elsie Parkes who dances her way into everyone’s heart, and Kelso Henderson, who at times partners her in many pretty numbers The prinicpal “boy” is Dorothy Leigh, and Daisy Yates is principal girl, and if the pantomime lives up to the reputation that has preceded it lovers of this kind of amusement will, be well satisfied. Tire box plans open at H. I. Jones and Son’s on Monday next. The Wanganui season will bo for two nights, Wednesday and Thursday, with a matinee on Thursday. The newspapers are enthusiastic in their appreciation of the all-round excellence of the pantomime.
