RAILWAY SUPERANNUATION FUND.
When the Estimates were under discussion in the House, Mr Yeitch said there was no provision for the usual contribution to the Government Hallways Superannuation Fund Last year ■£50,000 was voted. Did the Government intend to subscribe to the fund this year'- 1 As for the idea of having an actuarial, investigation into the position of the fund, he considered it would be a waste of money. There was a feeling of anxiety among the staff about the matter. They were inclined to fear that the actuarial investigation would be a prelude to the cutting down of their privileges. Would the Minister give- an assurance that, whether such an investigation was made or not the rights and privileges of the whole Public Service under the superannuation schemes would bo maintained ? Speaking a few minutes later, the Prime Minister gave Mr Yeitch an assurance that the Government considered existing superannuation rights wore an obligation upon the Government, and the staff could rest assured they would not be curtailed in any way.
