KATTOWITZ DISORDERS
ENCOURAGED BY GERMANS ANTICIPATED BOLSHEVIK SUCCESS By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received August 24, 8.45 a.m. Reuter. PARIS, August 21. General Leroud, the Allied Commander in Upper Silesia, reports that the Kattowitz disorders were due to the extremists’ belief that a Bolshevik triumph was imminent. He declares that the German Government, speculating on a Bolshevik success, encouraged the agitation. He states that the French casualties are . two killed and eight wounded, and the German ten killed and eighty wounded. The “outbreak will be submitted to the Ambassadors’ Conference, and most vigorous penalties will be demanded.
POLES OCCUPY THE CITY. Received August 24, 11.30 a.m. BERLIN, August 23. The insurgents are overrunning Kattowitz. The bulk of the population have fled. Sanguinary fighting has occurred in some districts, in which the Poles have disarmed the police. Advices from Breslau state that the Poles have occupied Kattowitz. RIOTS DUE TO GERMANS Received August 24, 11.30 a.m. ' LONDON, August 23. The' Polish Legation announces that the riots in Kattowitz were due to Germans, who were elated at the Bolsheviks’ advance on Warsaw. The Germans were illtreating the Polish population, and set fire to the quarters of the inter-Al-lied Commission and the Polish Plebiscite Commission. The Germans declare they will retake all lost territories with the Bolsheviks’ aid.
