THE MYSTERY SHIP

MR GRAHAM STILL POSITIVE. SAW LARGE STEAMER IN DISTRESS. (Per United Press Association.) GISBORNE, August 24. Mr Graham, manager of Roto tab i Station, confirms the statement of .'vieisrs McCrae and Williams as to having, with his sons, seen on Sunday morning and again in the afternoon a large steamer in distress. The fact that she was such a distance out to sea and so low in the water would probably account for the Arahura and Alonowai passing without noticing anything. The watchers on the land being at a height of 1500 feet were naturally able to see a great distance further than those on the sea level. Mr Graham says the vessel was visible as long as daylight lasted. It is understood the Kia Ora was ,not in the vicinity, but went to Hicks Bay for shelter.
