AMUSEMENTS.

PARAMOUNT MUNICIPAL PICTURES. “HOW COULD YOU, JEAN?” Mary Pickford is seen at her best in the fine Paramount-Artcraft production, “How Could You, Jean?” now forming part of the current programme at the Opera House. The story is a delightful one, portraying the downs and ups of life, and Mary Pickford is the bright little star through it all. The Mack Sennett comedy, “Her First Mistake,” is a scream, and the travel picture provides some very fine settings. Altogether the programme is well worth seeing, and that opportunity will bo given again to-night. “THE TEETH OF THE TIGER.” Arsene Lupin’s story, “The Teeth of the Tiger,” is to he produced at tho Opera House on Wednesday and Friday nights—two nights only. This gigantic production is being looked forward to with interest. VIOLET AND PRIMROSE DAT. On Wednesday next a committee of local ladies whj have been interesting themselves in the erection of a hostel for girls coming into town have arranged to have a violet and primrose day, and permission has been kindly given by Messrs George and Kersley to hold a stall in front of tho Economic on Wednesday. Owing to an oversight, the ladies of the Wanganui East Presbyterian Church will also be holding a stall in front of the same shop on the same day. As both causes arc very worthy, no doubt each will receive a full measure of public support. The House Committee of the Y.F.S. Lodge for Girls is holding an American tea on Thursday, August 26th, in aid of the building fund. The Lodge will bo thrown open so that the public can see over it. Friends ate reminded that the Gonville Church of England are holding another of their enjoyable socials tomorrow evening in the Lower Hall. Basket appreciated.
