ALLEGED THEFT
QUICK WORK. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 23. An official of a company playing at the Opera House placed a bag containing <£24-o—the night’s takings—on a piano on the stage on Saturday night, while conversing with members of the company. Turning his back for a moment it disappeared. Yesterday a constable noticed two men drinking whiskey in the street, and money changing hands. Suspecting sly grog-selling, he arrested them, and when searched £2OO was found on Henry Silk, a stage mechanic at the Opera House, and £6 on the other. The police were already looking for Silk, who will be charged with the theft-
