“BALD ROCK.”
HUGE AUCKLAND QUARBY, People who are familiar with North Auckland hare heard of Bald Bock, a huge deposit of solid rock near Kaiwaka, The bill is 750 feet high, and its stone is in two distinct formations—one is described as a slatey formation, and is very suitable for road metal; the other is evidently one enormous stratum of solid rock, and makes a handsome building stone. It is now proposed to quarry this enormous supply of rock, and to make it available for the purposes of good roads and splendid buildings. The contour of the deposits and surrounding land is such as to provide a working scheme by gravitation. The reports of experts declare the stone to be “the finest and best stone yet produced in New Zealand for building stone, and stone for the construction of roads and engineering works. . . . . The crushing strength of this stone reaches the highest test yet put on record, showing as it does an average of 1910 tons per foot crushing strength.” For stone of this class there is a keen and constant demand from county councils, the Public Works Department, engineers, builders, and contractors. As the supply at Bald Bock is practically limitless, there should be a prosperous future before the Pukckaroro Quarries; Ltd., which is being formed with a capital of .£IOO,OOO to work the deposits. Prompt application should be made for shares. The prospectus nud application forms can be obtained from the local brokers, Messrs Silk, Haworth and Co., 44 Maria Place, Wanganui; or from any branch of the National Bank; or Messrs Colbeck and Griffiths, chief brokers, N.Z. Insurance.Buildings, Queen Street, Auckland.
