DR. MANNIX

THE POPE PERPLEXED. Received—August 20, 1.20 p.m. LONDON. August 19. The Rome correspondent of the Daily Chronicle reports that the Vatican is deluged with telegrams from the Catholic hierarchy throughout the world urging the Pone to make a formal protest against Dr Mannix’s treatment. The correspondent learned that the Pope is sorely perplexed how to act for the best. Probably Dr Mannix will be requested to quicken his journey to Rome for a personal conference with the Pope.
