SEEKS SALT LAKE CITY. EVADING WIPE’S ORDER. VANCOUVER, August 14. A message from Salt Lake City reports that Charlie Chaplin fled to/that town from Los Angeles to escape a restraining order his wife’s attempt to tie up his assets pending their divorce. Charlie Chaplin said: “I spent, two years producing a picture entitled “The Kid,” and I- do not propose to lose the results. I wrote the play, acted it, directed it, and invested ,£60,000 in it. “My wife is only a young girl who has fallen into the hands of unscrupulous lawyers. I’ll grant her a divorce at any time, but not before this picture is sold. I offered her a substantial settlement, but she seeks a restraining order against the sale of this picture, and I came here to escape that restraining order.” >
