It was suggested by Mr Vcitch to the Postmaster-General that in the increases recently granted to members of the Post mid Telegraph Department prevision should be made for increases m salaries and commissions to country postmistresses and postmasters, and, if not, will he make such provision? The Postmaster-General replied that an improved scale of .salaries for nonpermanent postmasters and telephonists cones into operation from the Ist inst. The only officers who will not benefit under too improved scale arc those whose salaries are already more than 33 1-3 per cent, in excess yi amounts due according to business transacted.
