HOSPITAL BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING, The usual monthly meeting of {he Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held to-day, at which there were present: Mr Lethbridge (chairman). Mrs Coray ns, Messrs Battle, Dine, Ritchie, frpriggens. Brown, Fletcher. Sharpe, Aldridge, PiLkington, and Sveuson. LEASES.—The Board adopted the following recommendation from the Reserves Committee; •'That all lessees, whose leases were expiring in the near future, bo informed that if the, covenants of their lease, have not been kept-, with regard to the building and fence* being kept in repair, the Board would like to know if, before granting a renewal of the lease, the lessee won Id bn willing to have inserted in such lease a building clause in lieu of putting the. present building and J'encw in repair, to comply with the terms of the pre.-onu lease.” SALARIES.—Tito Health Department forwarded schedule of salaries agreed upon with regard to salaries to narses. This included the following: Probationer,?: First year .£:!(), socond .MO, third <£so, after passing State examination <£7s. Sisters; First year £lK>. second .£l2O, third if I JO, fourth £1.50, Night sisters and sisters of special departments: <£lso to £175. Assistant; and Matron, <£17.5 to ,£J.SO. Lady superintendent and Matrons. ,£250 to .f.SoO. It was stated that the salaries paid in Wanganui were approximately the samo as those in the above sciwdule. SUBSIDIES.—A long circular was received from the Waikato Hosoiial Board dealing with the Government subsidies on maintenance levies, and expressing favour of the Hat rate system at 20s in the &.—The chairman supported the proposal. He said that the Board’s subsidy this year- w'as Ms in the £, and yet this year it had made one of its biggest levies. Next year the levy would Ixt smaller, and the subsidy would consequently be less. A Hat rate would bo more satisfactory to hospital boards.--The suggestion was endorsed. PROBATIONERS.— With a view to overcoming thejpreseut difficulty of obtaining a sufficient number of probationers for Wanganui Hospital, Dr Hutson recommended that tin: nursing staff of Taihape Hospital should consist of trained nurses only, supplemented bv extra domestic assistance. An additional trained nurse and two domestics should meet the present requirements of that Hospital, and three probationers could bo wi thdra w n.—R ec ei ved. BUILDING .--The Board's architect reported that the plans of the proposed additions to the Taihape Ho.-i.ilal had been approved by the Health Department, and would lx; forwarded to the Minister for his consent. TAIHAPE HOSPITAL.— further consideration was given to the Department’s refusal to make Taihajye Hospital a training centre for nurses, it was contended bv speakers that just as good a training could be given probationers at Taihape as at Wanganui, and it was decided to make further representations to the Department. V.A.D.’s.—Owing to the present shortage of probationers, it was suggested by the Medical Huperintendeni of Wanganui Hospital to employ 'V.A.D.’s.— Agreed to.
