BLINDED SOLDIERS
CLUTHA MACKENZIE’S PROPOSAL. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 12. A proposal that a fund of ,£20,000 be established for the future care of New Zealand blinded soldiers was made to the Advisory Board of the War Relief Societies by Mr Clutha Mackenzie Ibis morning. So far, he said, the blinded soldiers had been looked after very well, but we should look to the future and draw up a definite plan. There were twenty-five blinded soldiers in New Zealand and their future should be provided for. The best way would bo to make him happy and keep him busy by giving him plenty to do. Poultry farming was specially suitable for such men. Blind men could not make this pay, and he suggested, therefore, that a definite fund be created by which the earnings of these men be subsidised £1 for £l. Sixteen societies had approved of this scheme. Mr Mitt said the Commercial Travellers’ Fund for blinded soldiers totalled £3365. Discussion is proceeding.
