SALE OF APPLES IN LONDON
FREE MARKET AT GOOD PRICES. Some important information about the export of apples to Great Britain has been received by the Department of Agriculture from the High Commissioner, in reply to a cable message sent to London at the request of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation. The High Commissioner states that the prospects are generally regarded as good for Stunners and Delicious arriving September-Octobcr. Tno English crop this season is expected to be light, and it is understood imports from America, are being recommended. The Food Controller has suspended price restrictions from August 1 to November 14, so that imports and Home supplies during that time will enjoy a free market. New Zealand shippers should not send apples over 2Jin. or 2jin., and provided the fruit is in good condition and arrives sound it should command the present control, figure. From November 15 control will be xcimposed, the price being based on the maximum of lOd per lb. retail.
