THE CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY’S DEAL. LONDON, July 1. In the House of Commons, Mr Seagar asked the Food Controller whether, in view of the co-operative societies secur ing the whole of New Zealand’s cheese and butter, it is in the public interest, and whether the Government proposes to take action to prevent such acquisition. The Food Controller repeated the statement that in case of any attempG being made to exploit the consumer he would not hesitate to use the powers given him by Parliament. THE CONTRACT WITH AUSTRALIA LONDON. July 1. The announcement was made that the new butter contract with Australia will operate on August Ist. Thus butter bought under the old contract, terminating on August 31st, benefits by the new contract prices.
