FUNCTION AT MARION

The Prince and members of his Party, together with the escort of Wanganui citizens, arrived at Marion at 10.30 a.m. On the ran through hundreds if people had gathered along the roadsides to see the Prince, who acknowledged their greetings. At Turakina a number of girls were lined along the roadside and fell owe red flowers into the Prince’s car. Where groups of settlers had assembled tale Prince’s motor car slowed down so fchat the people could obtain a better •new of the Eoyal Visitor. All the bridges en route were specially decorated

On arrival at Marten the Prince was bccordcd a most enthusiastic leeeptiou by the large crowd assembled at the District High School. Included in the gathering were children brought down the Main Trunk line by special trains. Tie High School was beautifully decorated for the occasion, and a large platform was erected near ’he school, from which Mr W. C. Kensington (Mayor) and Mr P. B. Lethbridge (chairman of the Rangitikei County Council) presented the addresses to the Prince land received his reply. The military parade was comprised of 3CK3 Senior Cadets, under the command >o{ Captain Arkwright. v There was also a muster of about 200 returned soldiers, with whom the Prince shook iiar.ds and stopped occasionally to converse with some of the “Diggers.” A feature of the gathering was the dresses of a section of the children which were of blue, with a white sash and red hair ribbons. 'The children were all Supplied with flags, which enhanced the picttiiresquanesH of the display. They also "Sang s/ few bars of “God Bless the Prince of Wales.” The Prince remained about half an hour in Marion before proceeding to the railway Nation to continue his tour. The arrangements at the station were excellent. The Royal motor-car was taken right on to 'Hie station platform alongside the Prince’s carriage. Use platform was crowded with local residents to wave their farewells to his Royal Highness. Included in the Wanganui residents who were on the platform were Mr and? Mrs C. E. Mackay, Lieut. Wales, M.C.. Mr and Mrs Veitcb, and Colonel Cunningham. The Prince* conversed with each of the above-named before entering his carriage. There was considerable cheering as the train steamed out of the station.

A Wanganui resident, who was in Marion, informed a “Herald” reporter that the general arrangements left nothing to be desired. Several Wanganui visitors were hospitably entertained at morning tea, and the children from the country schools were catered for on an extensive scale. There was an excellent di -.play of bunting and decorations along Broadway and the route to the railway station.

AT FEILDING.

(Per United Press Association.) FEILDENG, May 4,

Too Prince stayed at Feilding for fifteen minutes, being accorded a magnificent reception. The railway station and the Square were profusely decorated. There was a very large gathering, all the surrounding schools being represented. A welcome was extended by Mayor Harford and representatives of the local bodies. The Prince shook hands with ail returned soldiers.
