Ifc is reported that Demosthenes has been sold for 4000 guineas, but the aarno of the purchaser has not transpired. The Highdem team is being reduced to make room for the first batch of the main stock of the imported horse Panmure. Ermine and War Baby are to be retired to the stud.

King Abbey has won. six races this season for E. Hannon.

The best bid for Biplane at the Sydney sales was 375 guineas. The drawer of Poitrel in one of Tatt’s sweeps on the Sydney Cup laid the trainer, H. J. Robinson, .£250 to a packet of cigarettes against the horse. The trainer should undoubtedly 'have won that <£2so, hut, as it was, he lost .the cigarettes, A sensational disqualification wda imposed by the stipendiary stewards at the close of Tattersall’s meeting (S. Aus.). C. A. Northway, one of the leading Adelaide trainers, and H. No Surrender, a six-year-old chestnut gelding the American horse Salvadan, has won four races out of as many starts at Ellerslie this season. Each time he was ridden by W. Keeps. Salvadan has sired a number of winners of big fences, Antarctic being the best of them.

11l the ‘bad old days” of a few years ago, when the marbles for post positions were drawn from a bag, some jockeys used to have remarkable luck. It is now alleged that, even with improved appliances, there are still courses in N.S.W. (says a Sydney sporting writer) whore no inseparable difficulty attaches to a rider getting a good post position. And the same thing very often oecnrs in the Dominion without a doubt, and some of the clerk of scales should get wise to the fact of how fie ready is worked.
