MASSACRE OF FRENCH TROOPS

THE FIENDISH TURKS

LONDON, May 2

The Daily Express’ Beirut correspondent states that Americans from Urfa give horrible details of a massacre of 400 Frenchmen near Urfa, where they were defending themselves in an impregnable position for many weeks. They left this position in consequence of safe conduct being granted by the Turkish Government. Three thousand Kurds and Turks attacked the French column in a ravine and killed all except a iw» who escaped. There were shocking scenes at Urfa, where, later on, Kurdish and Turkish women shrieked war cries behind a procession of soldiers carrying poles with the heads of the murdered Frenchmen.
