OBITUARY
MR A, L. BEATTIE, (Per United Press Association.) NAPIER, May 2. _ The death occurred suddenly this morning, whilst in his bath, of Mr Alfred Lather Beattie, alt one time Chief Mechanical Engineer for the New Zealand Railways. Deceased, who was a member of the Hawke’s Bay, Northern, Wellington, and Dunedin Clubs, had the honour of arranging the tour of the Duke of York, now King George. He was a member of various local bodies, and a J.P.
ME F. G. MOOEE. MASTEETON, May 2. Mr Frederick George Moore, for 37 years clerk to the Masterton County Council, diel early on Sunday morning from heart failure, at the age of 76 years. Deceased, who was bom in India, came to New Zealand in 1863, and was in the Native Department with his brother-in-law (the late Sir John Gorst) at Te AwamutU. He was afterwards on the staff of Sir George Grey when the latter was Governor of New Zealand. Ho purchased an interest in the Glenburn Estate, in the Wairarapa, but sold out and came to reside in Masterton. In his younger days the deceased was a keen cricketer and musician. Ho was recognised as one of the most efficient county clerks in New Zealand,
