YOUTHS’ FOURS One mile. STAR B.C. (Wellington) . 1 NGARUAWHAIA R.C. 2 Other starters—Union, Wellington, Blenheim, Wanganui, Aramoho. All crews went off to a fair start and rowed evenly until the Aramoho bridge was reached, when Star and Ngaruawhaia began to draw out, and Union to drop behind. The two leading crews continued to increase their distance from the others, racing neck and neck. ‘While running like this Star caught a crab and lost about a length. By a splendid effort Star regained its position. A great contest at the finish ensued and the issue was in doubt until the firing of the gun announced that Star had first caught the judge’s eye. Ngaruawhaia was second half a length away. Time smin Isec. JUNIOR FOURS. UNION —1 PICTON 2 WELLINGTON 3 Other starters: Blenheim, and Hamilton. Picton led until quarter of a mile from home, at which stage Union, who had been second all the way, drew up level, timing their effort with fine judgment, and they went on to win by a clear length, Wellington three lengths away.
