SANITARY INSPECTORS’ ASSOCIATION.
INAUGURAL MEETING. The New Zealand Sanitary Inspectors have formed an Association, following the same lines as the parent English Association. It has for its object, as set out in its Articles of Association, “the promotion and among its members and others of such knowledge of sanitary science as falls with the department of a sanitary inspector in carrying out the duties imposed upon him by the Public Health and Local Government Acts, and the rights, liabilities, and duties of a sanitary inspector. 5 ’ The constitution of the Association provides for the establishment in each of the eight health districts, defined under the Public Health Department, of a local centre, a district within which the members attached to the centre may gather at stated times to discuss matters of common interest in connection with the administrative and scientific aspects of their duties. The Association may also eleot, as honorary and associate members, persons of scientific attainments, interested in the work of a sanitary inspector, or others holding appointment in connection with public sanitary administration. By these means it is possible to bring together all concerned in public health administration in any particular district for the promotion and interchange of the knowledge of sanitary science, and the interchange of information of local and professional interest, and thus promote a forward policy in sanitation throughout the Dominion. In addition to this formation of local centres, a general executive has been instituted of representatives of the different centres, whose duty will be- to further promote the objects of the Association, to endeavour to raise the standard scientifically or educationally of all sanitary inspectors, and to safeguard the rights and liabilities of its members. It is proposed each year,( alternatively in the different centres, to hold a oonferenceof sanitary inspectors and others interested in sanitary administration, when papers will be read and discussion take place on various matters affecting the administrative and scientific problems arising in connection with sanitary work. The meeting of ’the Association was attended by delegates from all parts of the Dominion, representing the Government, Hospital Board, and municipal sanitary officers. Dr Watt, Assistant Chief Health Officer, and Dr Faris, District Health Officer, representing the administrative heads of the Public Health Department, were present, and, on their behalf, expressed hearty sympathy with the objects of the Association, and assured the meeting of their assistance in furthering the interest* of the Association.
