Although the latest message from Paris states that the Allies have seat a final demand for the surrender of the war criminals, the Paris and British Press is excited regarding Lord Birkenhead’s mission to Paris. It is reported that Lord Derby invited a representative from London to give the British Government’s views. The Westminster Gazette says that it is now fairly clear that the attitude of Great Britain has been modified, and that Lord Birkenhead outlined Mr Lloyd George’s altered views. It is believed in some quarters that the Premier considers that the list contains too many names, that the demand for their surrender could not be carried out without causing grave disturbance in Germany, and that, apart from the ex-Kaiser, only those should be demanded against whom conclusive proof of breaches of International Law and responsibilities for atrocities can be produced. The Hon., Winston Churchill, in an article in the Sunday Herald, refers to the “sinister confederacy of international Jews for the overthrow of civilisation.” He says that the majority of the leading Russian Bolsheviks are all international atheistical Jews, except Lenin. The predominance of Jews in the Soviet institutions is even more astonishing. The same evil prominence was apparent during the Hungarian reign of terror under Bela Kun, and in the Bolshevik outbreaks in Germany. Zionism, on the other hand, is directing the energies and hopes of the Jews in every land to their true goal, so that they may become a powerful competing influence with the Bolshevist dream of a world-wide Communist State. Nothing was more significant than Trotsky’s furious attacks on the Zionists. Mr Churchill declares that the struggle between the Zionist and the Bolshevist Jews*is a struggle for the soul of the Jewish people. It is essential that the national Jews of every country who are loyal to the land of their adoption should take a prominent part in every measure to combat Bolshevism, thereby making it clear to all the world that the Bolshevist conspiracy is not a Jewish movement, but is vehemently repudiated by the great mass of the Jewish people. SCHEIDMANN’S VIEWS. Received February 10, 9.50 a.m. BERLIN, February S. The Government is summoning Parliament regarding the surrender demands.' Schoidemann, in a letter in the National Zeitung, says the position is quite, clear. Since the Government, with Parliament’s approbation, signed the peace treaty they had at least tried to fulfil the conditions, but since June he had been convinced that fulfilment was impossible. Auer, the ex-Bavarian Minister, declares that he is well disposed towards the Allies, and wiP not place difficulties in the way of the German Government in connection with handing over the accused. LLOYD GEORGE’S TIEWS STATED TO BE UNCHANGED. Received February 10, 9.5 a.m. LONDON, February . It is denied that Mr Lloyd George has modified his views regarding the war criminals. Lord Birkenhead visited Paris to consult the Allies, as the French list, contining over two hundred, and the Belgium list over three names of criminals, was not previously referred to Britain, whose list only contains one hundred names.
