ROWING.
N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA, By “VICTOR.” With the N.Z. championship regatta only a couple of weeks off, interest in rowing is growing apace, and it is evident that the regatta will be a memorable one. It is expected that a large number of visiting crews will compete, coming from Invercargill and as far noth as Auckland. Canterbury will be strongly represented, and Wellington, Marlborougu, and Napier will also send crews. The local oarsmen are in hard training, and are confident of holding their own in the various events in which they compete. An Aramoho crew has been got together for the Champion Fours, comprising Hodge (stroke), Blanchard (,3), Godfrey (2) and Paul (bow). It would be a good crew if the men could strike their best form, but with only a fortnight left for training it is doubtful whether they will he fit to do themselves justice. Another Aramoho crew (Ahern’s) was noticed out the other evening doing a spin and rowing along nicely. This crew should be very fit by the 21st inst. The Union Champion Fours crew 's in solid work, and shaping very well. The crew were rowing with a good swing last evening, at 18 to the minute. They will be quickening up next week. The crew now comprises C. Healey (Stroke), E. Byland (3), W. Coombea (2) and G. Wilson (bow). It is a strong combination, and should give a good account of itself in the big event.
